The Banking Giant Demands Fingerprint or Eye Scans for Headquarters Entry

The banking leader has informed employees assigned to its new corporate base in NYC that they are required to submit their biometric data to gain entry the high-value skyscraper.

Move from Discretionary to Compulsory

The banking corporation had initially intended for the collection of biometric data at its recently opened skyscraper to be voluntary.

However, staff of the US's largest bank who have started operations at the new headquarters since last month have obtained emails stating that biometric entry was now "required".

The Technology Behind Entry

Biometric access demands staff to submit their fingerprints to gain access access portals in the lobby in place of using their access passes.

Office Complex Information

The corporate tower, which reportedly required an investment of $3bn to develop, will ultimately function as a home for ten thousand employees once it is entirely staffed in the coming months.

Safety Justification

JP Morgan opted not to respond but it is understood that the employment of biological markers for access is designed to make the facility safer.

Alternative Access Methods

There are special provisions for some employees who will retain the ability to use a badge for access, although the standards for who will use more traditional ID access remains unclear.

Additional Technological Features

In addition to the introduction of biometric readers, the company has also released the "JPMC Work" digital platform, which serves as a electronic pass and hub for worker amenities.

The app enables users to manage external entry, explore indoor maps of the premises and arrange in advance dining from the building's 19 on-site dining vendors.

Broader Safety Concerns

The implementation of enhanced security measures comes as business organizations, notably those with significant operations in New York, look to strengthen protection following the incident of the CEO of one of the US's largest health insurers in July.

The executive, the boss of the insurance giant, was killed in the incident not far from JP Morgan's offices.

Additional Office Considerations

It is unclear if the banking institution intends to implement the biometric system for employees at its offices in other key banking hubs, such as the British financial district.

Employee Tracking Developments

The decision comes during discussion over the implementation of technology to track workers by their employers, including monitoring office attendance levels.

Earlier this year, all the bank's employees on flexible arrangements were directed they have to report to the workplace five days a week.

Leadership Viewpoint

The organization's head, the financial executive, has characterized JP Morgan's new tower as a "beautiful physical manifestation" of the organization.

The executive, one of the global financial leaders, recently cautioned that the likelihood of the US stock market experiencing a decline was far greater than many financiers thought.
