Exploring a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found plenty of engaging independent titles. Yet, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a hero that is literally a dung trying to travel to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: press a one button to leap. In 150 stages, encounter boss fights and unlock a shop to acquire customizations for your dung hero.

Time your jumps precisely, since one error forces beginning again. Bounce using bubbles to propel the poop upward, traverse crumbling platforms, and activate buttons to open new areas. Earn coins to purchase more difficult stages in which things ramps up.

Graphically, the experience features vibrant stages and catchy background music. The retro graphics of morphing basic polygons could recall gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though tough to name similar titles where you play as a coiled turd, gaming have long incorporated toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make grenades from character waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable awards, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. The demo is ready at present on Steam, with the full game planned to launch on Steam in the fall.
